Every delivery begins with understanding the yacht before leaving the dock. I review the vessel’s condition, safety equipment, navigation systems, machinery and essential onboard systems before departure. Weather routing and passage planning are then adapted to the yacht’s capabilities, expected conditions and the safest practical route.
Passage Planning

Every passage plan is developed around the yacht’s capabilities, seasonal conditions and expected weather window. Routing is continuously reviewed before departure to identify the safest and most efficient strategy, with alternative routes and ports of refuge considered whenever appropriate.
During the Passage

Daily weather routing, engine and systems checks, sail inspections and continuous voyage monitoring are part of every offshore delivery. The owner receives regular progress updates, including position, weather conditions and any relevant technical observations. Route and sailing decisions are continuously reviewed as conditions evolve, always prioritizing the safety of the yacht and crew.
Handover
Professional handover with complete technical documentation, maintenance recommendations and a detailed condition report for future improvements.
At destination, the yacht is handed over in an orderly and professional manner. The owner or representative receives a clear summary of the passage, including any technical observations or issues identified during the delivery. The yacht’s condition, systems and relevant onboard information are reviewed before the final handover is completed.
Pre-Delivery Assessment
Before departure, I carry out a practical assessment of the yacht to identify any issues that could affect the delivery. Safety equipment, navigation and communication systems, engines, electrical systems, rigging and sails where applicable, fuel, essential spares and other critical onboard equipment are reviewed. Any significant concerns are discussed with the owner before the yacht leaves the dock.
Findings & Recommendations
Any issues identified during the pre-delivery assessment are documented and reported to the owner or management team, together with practical recommendations and any corrective action considered necessary before departure. Where required, I can coordinate with the owner, management, shipyard, engineers or other service providers to ensure that essential work is completed before the yacht sails. Safety always takes priority over schedule. If significant defects, missing documentation or safety concerns are identified, departure may be postponed until the yacht is properly prepared for the passage.

Founded by Spanish Captain Nacho Lamadrid, the company combines more than 170,000 nautical miles, five Atlantic crossings, over 30 years of professional yachting experience, and extensive expertise in yacht deliveries, yacht management, technical refits and captain consultancy.
Nacho’s passion for sailing began at the age of seven, racing in the Optimist class before progressing through several competitive and Olympic sailing classes. He later became a professional sailor, building a career that has taken him from international regattas to commanding luxury sailing and motor yachts across the world’s oceans.
Throughout his career, Nacho has commanded both sailing yachts and motor yachts for private owners, charter companies, yacht brokers and yacht management companies throughout the Mediterranean, the Caribbean and the Atlantic. His experience ranges from luxury motor yachts and performance sailing yachts to demanding offshore passages and transatlantic deliveries, always with the same commitment to safety, professionalism and reliability.
Beyond navigation, Lamadrid Yacht Services provides comprehensive technical expertise, including yacht preparation, refit supervision, mechanical and electrical systems, navigation equipment, energy management and maintenance planning. Every delivery concludes with a detailed Technical Condition Report, providing owners with practical recommendations to improve the yacht’s safety, reliability and long-term performance.
Competitive sailing has also played an important role throughout Nacho’s career. He participated in the 1992 America’s Cup Team Building Project, won the Copa del Rey on two occasions, competed in numerous international regattas and served aboard prestigious yachts associated with the Spanish Royal Family. These experiences have shaped a captain known for technical excellence, discipline, discretion and absolute reliability.
